Project - Lambton Street Youth Centre

  • Latest New - Our new extension to the building is now almost complete and is fantastic - We now have a bigger space for youth club activities, a new and more accessible reception/entrance area, a state of the art groupwork/training room and our administrator has an office of her own at last!! We would like to say a big thank you to Sunderland Youth Opportunities Fund who gave us £25k towards the cost of the work and another big thank you to Gentoo who have just made a contribution towards the cost of new furniture and equipment.

    Sporting Achievements
    Congratulations to John Simpson, our Senior Judo Instructor who has achieved his 4th Dan Grade Black Belt.Our Karate sectio over the past year they have held 3 grading events and young people have achieved a 100% pass rate. The squad has also competed in 5 regional competitions and have brought back silverware from each event! Well done!
  • Our boxing section which has had young people competing in several Championship competitions and has produced the following results for the Club; 3 Northeast Clubs for Young People Champions - 1 Northern Counties Clubs for Young People Champion - 1 Clubs for Young People National Finalist - 1 Junior ABA National Semi-finalist - 2 Junior ABA National Champions - 1 England Representative (3 Nations Championships)
  • Our Under 14 football team which won the Tyne & Wear Youth League Cup, were semi-finalists in the County Cup and runners up in the Under 14’s Premier League

    Educational Achievements
    LSYC has recently achieved the 14-19 Quality Assurance Standard (Silver) for our educational work with young people. A big thank you to Kerry whose commitment and hard work shone through in the end!!! Congratulations should also be extended to our 12 young volunteers who achieved the following Awards: - Asdan Residential Activity Award - Asdan Sports and Fitness Award - First Aid Certificate - National Navigators Award - Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards The volunteering project that was funded through the Government’s Funding programme has now ended but its encouraging that many of the young people that have been involved over the past 2 years have remained involved with the Centre.
