The new GO4IT programme is proving to be a great success,in addition to the new evening and weekend activities that have been very well attended project workers have designed and delivered a new programme of work to engage young people aged 16-18 years who are not in education employment or training. Each young person is allocated a key worker who provides them with bespoke support and lots of encouragement to work towards qualifications in an effort to build their confidence and motivate them to re-consider their options. Of the 11 young people that were recruited in November last year, 2 have gained employment, 4 have returned to full-time education, 4 have continued training with various training providers and 1 young person is still being supported. 100% of the young people have gained accreditation in one or more of the following areas: • Heartstart certificate • ASDAN Short course – PHSE • ASDAN Short course – Preparation for employment • CIOEH – Manual Handling • First Aid Certificate |

- Core Work Programme
Drop in youth clubs. - Each week the organisation delivers 21 youth club sessions at eight different venues across the Washington area. Evening youth club sessions take place Mon-Sat and each session lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours. Youth clubs offer generic youth work activities such as table tennis, pool, mc-ing, drama, dance, arts & crafts , team games, sports etc. Young people at each club are involved in planning the activities that take place.
- School inclusion work Youth workers deliver alternative curriculum activities i.e. Keyfund, ASDAN short courses, Duke of Edinburgh Award for 4 sessions per week with young people of school age who are at risk of becoming disengaged from mainstream education. The majority of young people who attend the inclusion sessions are low achievers and many also have complex issues at home that impacts upon their ability to achieve to their full potential.
- JAG Project (Jobs a Goodun) The project was designed to respond to the needs of young people aged 15-19 who are not in education, training or employment. The project aims to raise the aspirations and self esteem of individuals by providing tailored support to enable young people to develop the skills and qualifications they need to achieve a positive outcome. Some young people are encouraged to participate in the Entry to Employment (E2E) programme through which they gain accredited qualifications appropriate to their chosen outcome for progression. • School Holiday activity programmes The organisation delivers PAYP “Positive Activities for Young People” during all school holiday periods to help ensure that young people have positive alternatives to hanging around the streets where they are at risk of being drawn into anti-social behaviour. Young people are involved in planning the activities to ensure they are appropriate to need and expectations.
- Outreach youth work This work is often needs driven. Where there is an identified social need or an anti-social behaviour hotspot qualified youth workers will respond by establishing contact with the groups of young people involved and encouraging them to get involved in the many activities that take place in different areas throughout the week. In instances where young people have been reluctant to engage in centre-based provision workers have worked with groups to plan there own activities using the Keyfund.
- Extended Schools Programme ODYPP has worked closely with local schools in the Barmston area to provide a comprehensive range of extended school activities. • Music Project Approximately 130 young people are registered on the music project which takes place 3 evenings each week. The project provides young people who have an interest in music with opportunities to develop their skills, record their music to CDs and perform on stage in other youth clubs across the area. Many young people involved in the music have achieved recorded outcomes and some young people have achieved D of E sectional awards.
- Mountain-biking project The project has been operational for 12 months and has provided approximately 200 young people with opportunities to participate in cycling activities. Beneficiaries are young people aged 13-19 from across the Washington area who may be referred to the project by a partner organisation or who may already be involved in our youth work programmes. The project aims to encourage young people to get more involved in exercise and healthy living. Some participants have gone onto achieve an ASDAN award/ DoE sectional award in recognition of their efforts.
- Integral to the structured work programmes outlined above is the information advice and support that is provided by youth workers to young people attending activities. Youth workers support young people to deal with a wide range of issues as they make the transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. The staff team is drawn from a range of disciplines and continuous opportunities for personal and professional development help to ensure that youth workers have the skills and access to-up-to date information to support young people across a wide range of topics that include dealing with stress, coping with bullying/peer pressure coping with relationships at school and at home, sexual health, substance misuse, identifying options for progression, etc.
